STROLL AROUND BREÑA AND BARBATE

This mountain bike tour starts from Vejer in direction to San Ambrosio, where we will make our first stop in the Mill of Winds of the count.  From this point get ready to enjoy an spectacular panoramic  view of the hill of Patria, Santa Lucia, Conil de la Frontera and its beaches, the tower of Castilnovo and El Palmar beach.

After this first stop, we will start take the road to Buenavista. We will make a stop to see the panoramic views of Vejer de la Frontera and Paternilla countryside. Our next stop will be the Natural Park of La Breña.

Once we enter the Natural Park of the Breña, we turn aside to make a stop in one of the most beautiful places of the Park: The Dovecote (El Palomar) of La Breña . The dovecote was built in the eighteenth century and is considered one of the three biggest dovecotes in Europe. The breeding of pigeons in this region was very important, because they produced the so-called “palomina”, the excrements of these birds, that were used to fertilize existing crops such as hemp or tobacco.

Our mountain bike ride continues by a wide track and descending downhill crossing the pine forest of La Breña. Enjoy 100% this priviledged environment right at the Natural Park.  We will be surrounded by pines all the way until we get to Barbate.

Barbate, is an ancient and traditional fishing villaje. Here, tuna fishing using the Almadraba is world known. We will head the fishing port and stop to visit its famous fish market and the marina.

On the way back to Vejer, we will take our mountain bikes and ride along the promenade, which is full of bars and restaurants. We will make a stop to taste local and famous fried fish. Our last stop will be at the old port, where we can visit the Fish Market Museum of Barbate. The museum has been rebuilt in the fishing pier, where the old fish market used to be.

The price includes: Box lunch, Mountain Bike, transport, protections (helmet, gloves, knee pads and elbow pads) and experienced guides.

This tour covers a distance of about 15km. and lasts about 2 hours (including several stops).

The difficulty of this route will depend on how fit you are. We can choose different routes to reach the points described in the tour.
