HOW TO USE THE ANTI PUNCTURE LIQUID FOR YOUR BIKE TYRE. FOR DUMMIES

Tired of fixing bike punctures? Read this effective solution!

This week I decided to write a this article to help people seal a puncture of your bike tyre with the anti-puncture liquid.

Why “for dummies”? as I am the one with big hands (better hide the tools away from me). It is very difficult to get a 9mm pistol in the market, but I can easily get a Black & Decker. That should be regulated in some way. Going from big hands to a handyman is a matter of taking your time enjoy what you are doing. That is why, since it is not part of my hobbies, I have forgotten all the manual work. If you are like me and live in Vejer or the surrounding area, it is advisable to put yourself in the hands of professionals like my friend Fran from “Bicicletas El Señorito” who will do it much faster and with full guarantee.

As many of you already know there are three ways to limit the punctures on your bike.

1-Anti-punctures inner tubes: These are tubes that come coated with a liquid that prevents small punctures. These tubes can be purchased at any bike store and usually cost almost twice as much as the normal ones.

2- Anti-puncture liquid. You can do it on your own when needed.

3- The third and most effective option would be to tubelize the wheel by removing the camera, isolating the wheel and introducing the liquid directly on the cover.

Materials:

As this post is about the second option, we will explain this method in detail:

1- Take a tool to remove the howitzer valve (is that small black piece that we can see in the photo).

2- Anti puncture liquid. You can find it on the internet. I bought this one from Stan’s (find it on the image). You can find this in different formats: 1L (25 EUR) or 1/2L (15 EUR). For me is OK the 1L one

3- Syringe of 20 or 50ml to inject the liquid.

Operating Manual:

In order to change the liquid in your tubes, the first thing we have to do is unscrew the valve shell. It is convenient that when the tube is empty the valve is at the highest point so that the howitzer does not get stuck.

Once the cannon has been removed and the valve opened, pour 200ml of liquid (aprox.) into a can and with the syringe we will take it and inject it into the chamber. As my syringe is 20ml I always repeat the operation 5 times. A good load would be 100ml on each wheel. Then we put the shell back into the valve, we tighten it with the key and do the same operation with the other tyre.

Then you inflate the tyre and you’re done! Easy, isn’t it?

I recommend inflate the tubes to put more pressure at the beginning so that the edge of the cover is put in place and then do not turn the wheel sideways. Spin them well and when they have a lot of pressure and the cover has been well placed, deflate the pressure to match your favourite.

You will probably wonder if this has to be repeated for some time or is it like that forever?

The anti-puncture liquid is lost little by little by the temperature and by the small punctures that you may have. My advise is to inflate the tubes again every 6 months.

I don’t want to say goodbye before reminding you of our incredible MTB, Fat Bike and road cycling excursions (including anti-puncture inner tubes). We visit unforgettable and unique landscapes in Cadiz (Southern Spain) like The natural park of La Breña, Los Alcornocales or the impresive dunes and pristine beaches.
